Open Source Options for Digital Repositories, November 20, 2009

A project team at the Texas Center for Digital Knowledge, University of North Texas, with funding by the OnCoRe Blueprint Project, undertook a review of seven open source software (OSS) platforms and applications that can be used in the context of a learning object repository (LOR). The project focused primarily on the technical specifications, features, and functions of the underlying software. The review also examined implementation-specific LORs’ use of the OSS platforms, which included discussions with the LOR implementers. This presentation will reviews the results and findings as well as discussing the opportunities and challenges of using OSS.


Automated Metadata and Content Discovery, July 17, 2009

Damon Regan from Eduworks  discusses the role of metadata in the discovery of learning content. He demonstrated how metadata can be automatically generated and employed in classifying content. One example is matching content to state standards.

Orange Grove Textbooks May 29, 2009.

This webinar features Meredith Babb, from The University Press of Florida, speaking about Orange Grove Textbooks. This project will allow faculty and students throughout Florida to download open textbooks for online use and to purchase "print on demand" versions of these same textbooks for 40-50% of their present textbook costs.


SoftChalk and The Orange Grove, April 16, 2009


This session demonstrates features of SoftChalk’s “federated search” tool, which will include The Orange Grove in its list of searchable repositories. Once this integration is complete, publically available Orange Grove resources will be accessible through SoftChalk V5.
